Isaac's Son

Day 1 – ISAAC AND HIS SONS

Read Genesis 25:19-27
Who was Isaac’s dad? Who was Isaac’s mom?
Who were Isaac’s sons, and who was born first?
What are they known for?

Day 2 – CAN I HAVE SOME SOUP?

Read Genesis 25:19-34
What did Esau give up his inheritance for?
Is it stupid that Esau gave up his inheritance for a temporary thing that only satisfies for a little while?
Your inheritance in Jesus is eternal life. Do you ever push that aside because you want some temporary thing on earth?

B&B

Read John 19-20
Abraham didn’t have to sacrifice his son because God provided the lamb. God did sacrifice His own Son.

Day 3 – THE HAIRY MAN… OR IS HE?

Read Genesis 25:19-34
How did Jacob trick his dad?
What happened to the brother’s relationship?

Give it a try!

Jacob asked Esau for forgiveness. If you need to ask for forgiveness or need to forgive someone, pray for God to give you the humility and strength to do it… and then go do it.

Day 4 – THE WRESTLER

Read Genesis 32:22-31
Who wrestles Jacob?
Who won the wrestling match? What was Jacob’s reminder of the wrestling match?
What is the name God gave Jacob?
Israel means “God prevails.” God showed Jacob that He always prevails in a one-on-one match.
God spends the rest of the Bible showing how He prevails in any struggle that comes our way.

Day 5 – IM SORRY

Read Genesis 33:1-10
How did Jacob ask for forgiveness? Did Esau hold a grudge?
How can you learn from Jacob and Esau?

We see examples and pictures of Jesus throughout the Old Testament.
NOAH = SALVATION
ISAAC = SACRIFICE
JOSEPH = PROVISION
MOSES = DELIVERANCE
BOAZ = REDEEMER

Slavery, Prison, and Crazy Dreams

Day 1 – THAT’S A COLORFUL COAT!

Read Genesis 37:1-36. What happened here?
Why did Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery?
Has something bad ever happened to you even though you did nothing wrong?
How can you learn from how Joseph responded?

Day 2 – I AM INNOCENT

Did Joseph do anything wrong to deserve prison?
Can you imagine how Joseph felt? Have you ever been wrongly accused?
What happened to Joseph in prison?
Do your circumstances, no matter how bad they may be, happen for a reason?

Day 3 – FAT COWS AND SKINNY COWS

Read Genesis 41. How did Joseph get out of prison? What did the king do for Joseph?
Joseph went from slave, to prison, to second in command of Egypt. Now do you believe hard times happen for a reason? Did Joseph have to be patient with God’s timing?

Give it a try!

Esther was like Joseph in that she was a Jewish girl who God placed in a high position in an ungodly kingdom. Esther was the queen.  In both Joseph and Esther’s stories, God used each of them to save His people. Read Esther 4:14. This is the moment that Esther was challenged to risk death in asking the King to save her people. “For such a time as this…” Look around where God has placed you. Think about your school, your friends, or maybe even your sports team. Is God asking you to step up for Him? There are many people He wants to save today!

Day 4 – WE NEED FOOD

Read Genesis 42:1-38
What does Joseph do for his brothers? What does he ask of his brothers?

Day 5 – WE HAVE TO GO BACK

Read Genesis 43:1-44:34
Today, read more of the details of Joseph’s story and how he sees if his brothers have changed or if they are still hateful people who seek to do wrong.
How did Joseph’s brothers change?
Do you believe that people change? Do you give them a chance to change?

Living in Egypt

Day 1 – REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD

Read Genesis 45:1-46:7
After all Joseph went through, did he hold a grudge against his brothers?
What does God teach you through the life of Joseph?

Day 2 – PHARAOH’S ADOPTED GRANDSON

Read Exodus 1:1-2;8, 23
What has happened to the Israelites?
Is life good for them?
What happened to Moses when he was born?
Does God care about what happened to the Israelites?
Do you believe He cares about what you go through?

Day 3 – THE BUSH IS ON FIRE!

Read Exodus 3:1-4:17
How does God talk to Moses?
What does God tell Moses He is going to do?
What does God ask Moses to do? Why was Moses afraid?
Have you ever thought you couldn’t do something that God asks of you?

DIG DEEPER

Read 1 Timothy 4:12. Paul wrote this to the young man, Timothy, whom eventually passed on his entire ministry to a few years later. Moses was intimidated to speak to Pharaoh because of his speech. Timothy was afraid to tell others about Jesus because he was young. Is there any reason you are afraid to do something God has asked you to do? How can Moses’ example and Paul’s words encourage you?

Day 4 – GOD’S GOT YOUR BACK

Read Exodus 6:1-10
What does God promise to do for His people in verses 6-8?
God is still in the business of delivering people from slavery and redeeming them.
How does He do that for you?
Did you know that God, just like the Israelites, wants to call you His?

Day 5 – KERMIT’S REVENGE

Read Exodus 6:28-8:15
What are the plagues that God handed Pharaoh and the Egyptians?
Did Pharoah listen? Why not?
God can use circumstances to get our attention. Has He ever used a circumstance to get your attention? How did you respond?

Stuck In Egypt

Day 1 – COULD SOMEONE CALL PEST CONTROL

Read Exodus 8:16-9:35
What are the plagues that God handed Pharaoh and the Egyptians?
Notice Pharaoh only calls for Moses when a plague happens and life is hard.
But when everything is okay, he hardens his heart and won’t listen to God.
Do you only ask God for help when you need Him and ignore Him when everything is okay?

Day 2 – COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TURN ON THE LIGHT?

Read Genesis 39:2
What are the plagues that God handed Pharaoh and the Egyptians?
Did you notice that Pharaoh almost let the Israelites go? What made him change his mind?
Livestock and herds were valued possessions back in Moses’ time. Pharaoh was concerned about earthly things which kept him from doing what God wanted. Have you ever made a decision not to listen to God because of an earthly thing?

Day 3 – LAMB CHOPS ANYONE?

Read Exodus 11:12-30
What did the Israelites have to do to avoid the death of the firstborn son?
Read John 1:29. What is Jesus called in this verse?
What did Jesus do for you on the cross? How is it similar to what happened here?

Day 4 – FORGET THE LAMB CHOPS, I WANT THE TRUE LAMB

Read 1 Peter 2:24
The Passover is an important part of the Old Testament because it was the day that God rescued His people from slavery. God was previewing what Jesus would do. God is still rescuing people from slavery of sin through Jesus.
Think about what Jesus did for you today.

Day 5 – SERVING THE LAMB

Read Hebrews 9:14
What does this verse say about the blood of Jesus?
When you believe in Jesus as your Savior, how should you respond?

Obey the Law

Day 1 – THE “THOU SHALTS”

Read Exodus 20:1-21
What does God tell Moses?
Why does God want the people to avoid idols?
Is the same true for you?

Day 2 – THE HEARTFELT “THOU SHALTS”

Read Matthew 5
Thousands of years later, the Israelites had taken the heart out of the Law. They were just going through the motions. Jesus had to remind them how following the Ten Commandments truly looked.
Take notes on what Jesus said about the commandments of God from the Old Testament.
Have you broken any of the Ten Commandments according to Jesus’ explanation?

Day 3 – A MISTAKE: THE GOLDEN CALF

Read Exodus 32
Did Israel do what God asked them to? Why did they make an idol?
Have you ever been impatient with God? Why?
God was angry and the people deserved to die and be separated from God.
How do you see God’s grace here?
Read Proverbs 3:12. Does this explain why God punished His people?

Day 4 – WANDERING SOULS

Read Numbers 13; 14:26-28
God had promised the people that He would give them back their land.
What happened when Moses sent the 12 spies? Besides the scary people, did the laok good?
Was there anyone who believed God could do it?
Has God ever told you to do something, and it seemed too hard?
How can you have faith like Joshua and Caleb?
When you don’t believe what God can do, you miss out. How did some people miss out?

Day 5 – IT’S YOUR TURN

Read Joshua 1:1-18
Take notes about what happens in this passage.
Read Joshua 1:8-9. How does this verse apply to your life? Memorize this verse.

There were many things that God’s people had to do to follow Him in the Old Testament. They seem really hard and crazy to do, but God had a reason for it all. There are really long books that explain some of the reasons, but it was simply how people followed God before Jesus. Why do we not have to do them now? Jesus! He tells His disciples in Matthew 5:17 that He fulfills the law. We don’t have to make sacrifices of animals anymore because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for sins. Believing that His blood covers your sins takes the place of what they did in the Old Testament. If you follow how Jesus lived, then you will be following the Ten Commandments.

Welcome Home

Day 1 – DOUBLE AGENT

Read Joshua 2
Take notes about what happens in this passage. Rahab was not an Israelite.
How did she hear about God? Did Rahab believe in God after hearing what He had done?
How did Rahab help the spies? What did God say was a result of her action? James 2:25

Day 2 – BEEN THERE, DONE THAT

Read Joshua 3
All of the people who crossed the Red Sea had grown up and passed on. God was giving the children, who were now adults, the opportunity to experience what their elders had at the Red Sea.
Are you amazed at what God can do?
Who went across the river first?
Is it important to put God first in everything you do? Why or why not?

Day 3 – NEVER FORGET

Read Joshua 4:1-13
What did God ask Israel to do?
God might not ask you to build a stone memorial, but what are some ways you can remember the great things that God has done for you in your life?

Day 4 – THE WALLS CAME TUMBLING DOWN

Read Joshua 6
What did God ask Israel to do?
God asked Israel to walk around the enemy for 7 days without fighting.
Has God ever asked you to do anything that seemed crazy?
Who won the battle against Jericho, God, and Israel?
Who fights your battles?

Day 5 – WHO IS YOUR MASTER?

Read Joshua 24:14-15
Joshua tells the people they cannot serve God and idols. Idols are anything that you worship more than God. Worship is more than singing; it is how you live and how you spend your time.  Spend some time thinking about how you live your life. Are you following Jesus or are you serving an idol?
What could you do to get rid of any distractions keeping you from Jesus?

Give it a try!

Write down something below that God has done in your life. It could be something He has done in your life or the lives of others. Make sure you put a date by what you write. If you do this your entire life, you can look back and be reminded of how great God is!

One Ordinary Man + God = Judges

Day 1 – ISRAELITE IDOL

Read Judges 2:6-16
What happened after Joshua died? Who helped Israel get out of trouble?
Good leaders can help people do great things. God can use a leader to help His people turn away from evil and follow Him. How can you be a leader for the Lord in your school or with your friends?

Day 2 – EVIL HEARTS

Read Judges 2:11-3:14
What were God’s people like in this passage?
How was God faithful to His people, even though they were not faithful to Him?

Day 3 – YOU GO GIRL

Read Judges 4 and 5:31
How did God use a woman to help His people?
Women were not seen as leaders in this time in history, but God chooses the most unlikely people to do His work.
How does Deborah’s story encourage you?

Day 4 – I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Read Exodus 14:14
Why did Gideon think he wasn’t good enough for what God wanted him to do?
Have you ever felt like you were not good enough for God to use you for His work? Why?
If God can use Gideon, who was a nobody in the eyes of the world, He can use you. Do you believe this?

Day 5 – 300 MEN ARMY

Read Judges 6:36-7:25
God has shown you that He uses unlikely people for His will. Today, He shows you He can use unlikely circumstances to show how great He is.
What happened here?
Do you, like Gideon, have faith in God, no matter the circumstances?

B&B – BIGGER AND BETTER

God has spent His entire existence choosing to do awesome things through normal, ordinary people. King David was not always a king. In fact, Samuel the prophet thought God would choose David’s brother based on how he looked. Read 1 Samuel 16:7. What matters the most to the Lord is the heart. Does image or heart matter to you?

A Strong Man and a Poor Woman

Day 1 – LONG HAIR = MIGHTY STRENGTH

Read Judges 13:1-7, Judges 16
What made Samson so strong?
How was Samson tricked?
Who really was the source of Samson’s strength?
What lessons can you learn from Samson?

Day 2 – I AM GOING WITH YOU

Read Ruth 1
Was Ruth an Israelite?
Ruth was possibly giving up marriage and wealth by going with her mother-in-law. She would be poor and possibly not accepted. What can you learn from Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi and God?

DID YOU KNOW

Ruth was not Jewish. She was a Moabite, yet God included her in the lineage of Jesus. This is a little preview from God that His people would not all be Jews. Even back in the O.T. day, anyone, not matter who you are or where you came from, could follow God.

Day 3 – DUMPSTER DIVING

Read Ruth 2
Ruth and Naomi had no one to provide for them. They were so poor that Ruth had to pick up the scraps of crops left behind by the harvesters. What did Boaz do for her?
What can you learn from Boaz’s generosity?

Day 4 – WILL YOU MARRY ME?

Read Ruth 3-4
In Ruth’s time, all a woman had was from her father or her husband. If her husband died, then an unmarried man from her deceased husband’s family would redeem her.
This means, he would save her from being poor.
What did Boaz do for Ruth?
Boaz is a small example of what Jesus did for you.
How did Jesus redeem you?
What does Boaz’s compassion on Ruth cause you to think about?

Day 5 – THE ULTIMATE FAMILY TREE

Read Ruth 4:13-18
Ruth gives birth to a baby who will eventually be the grandad of whom?
Read Matthew 1:5-17. Who is the most important person in Ruth’s family tree?
Challenge – Who was Ruth’s mother-in-law by her 2nd husband, Boaz?
Hint: you just studied about her in Joshua.

DIG DEEPER

Reading the book of Ruth is really hard to understand in the times we live in today. Woman, in our culture, can have jobs and survive on their own. In Ruth’s time, she had nothing because she had no one to provide for her. Boaz saved her life. He redeemed her. Does this sound familiar? Read Colossians 1:20-22. Who is the ultimate redeemer? What does that cause you to think about in Boaz’s compassion on Ruth?

Bad King Vs. Good King

Day 1 – SLAYING A GIANT

Read 1 Samuel 17
How does David kill Goliath?
What can you learn from David’s faith?
Do you have the guts to face something impossible for the Lord, even if no one else will?

Day 2 – HIDE AND SEEK

Read 1 Samuel 23:7-24:22
How does Saul treat David? How does David treat Saul?
What can God teach you through David’s humble heart?

Day 3 – THE ROYAL ADVISOR

Read 2 Samuel 5
Who is David’s adviser for anything he does?
Do you go to the Lord for what to do?
How can you go to the Lord for what you should do?

I believe… (#d7df22 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

David believed that God could do the impossible. He knew that God could defeat any giant, and He could use anyone to do it. Do you believe God can use you to do awesome, impossible things? Think about why or why not

Day 4 – FOREVER KING

Read 2 Samuel 7:1-17
What does David want to do for God? David’s heart was good, but was that God’s plan?
Read verse 13-16. What does God promise David?
Read Matthew 1:5-17. Who makes David’s throne last forever?

Day 5 – THE BOY WITH CRIPPLED FEET

Read 2 Samuel 9:1-11
Jonathan was King Saul’s son and David’s best friend.
What did David do for Jonathan’s son?
Mephibosheth was the grandson of Saul, the man who always tried to kill David. Does David hold a grudge?
What can God teach you from David’s example of compassion?

DIG DEEPER

Read Matthew 7:7. This verse explains why David asked God for everything. This verse does not mean that you get everything you want. It means you should ask God and then seek Him while you wait for His answer. When you seek Him, you will know exactly what God wants you to do. You will know where or how to “knock.” The best news ever is that the door will be opened to you.

The Slippery Slope

Day 1 – THE SNOWBALL EFFECT

Read 2 Samuel 11
List all the things that David did wrong.
Sin is a slippery slope.
How did David’s sin snowball?
Even the greatest of men sin and you can learn from their mistakes. What are some ways David could have avoided what he did wrong?

Day 2 – CONFRONT IT, CONFESS IT, AND BE RESTORED

Read 2 Samuel 12:1-23
What made David see the wrong in his ways?
What did David do when He recognized his sin?
We all make mistakes, but nothing is too big to forgive. What is God teaching you through David’s repentant heart?
Do you have something that you have done wrong that you are truly sorry about? The Lord loves you and wants you to turn to Him. He will forgive and restore you, just like He did for David. Read 1 John 1:9 for encouragement.

God walked with His people in the Garden until man had to be kicked out. As soon as man sinned, God enacted His plan of salvation. He wasn’t okay with the separation between you and Him. As you read throughout the Bible, you will see God get closer and closer to His people. He dwells in a cloud, in a tabernacle (portable tent), and finally, God’s people get to build the temple where He will dwell for many years. Did you know He never intended for human-made buildings to be His home? He had a better temple in mind, one that He built alone… Read 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.

Day 3 – OH WISE ONE

Read 1 Kings 2:1-4; 3:1-15
What did Solomon ask of God?
What did God give Solomon?

Day 4 – GOD’S HOUSE

Read 1 Kings 8:1-11; 9:1-9
What does Solomon build?
Does God want good things for His people?
What did God warn His people would happen if they followed idols?

Day 5 – WORTHLESS JUNK

Read 1 Kings 10:23-25
Solomon was the richest man in the world and also the wisest. There was nothing he did not have. Is being the smartest and the richest still something people want today?
At the end of Solomon’s life, he wrote the book Ecclesiastes. Read Ecclesiastes 2:9-11.
Did the man who had it all think wisdom and riches were that great?
(Hint: the definition of vanity is worthless)
There is nothing wrong with being smart or being rich. God can use those gifts.
The problem is when you value the things you have and your abilities more than God.
Have you ever done this?

Downward Spiral

Day 1 – CIVIL WAR // THE FIRST NORTH AND SOUTH

Read 2 Samuel 11
Who should Rehoboam have listened to, the elders or his peers?
Why is it important to value the advice of those who are older?
Do you seek the advice of your elders or just your peers?
The consequence for Rehoboam’s actions was the nation of Israel dividing into two. What are some consequences that could happen if you only listened to your peers and ignored your parents?

Day 2 – ELIJAH’S DOUBLE DARE

Read 1 Kings 18:20-40
How does the prophet Elijah challenge the prophets of Baal?
What happens when the prophets of Baal asked Baal to bring down fire?
What happened when Elijah asked the real God to call down fire?
What do you learn about God?

DIG DEEPER

Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. What is God’s Word useful for?
What can it do to set you up for success? Why do you think God’s Word is important?

Give it a try!

Most Secret Service agents don’t protect the United States government. The most common job for a Secret Service agent is protecting the United States money. These agents spend their days spotting counterfeit money and keeping others from creating and giving out fake money. All they have to know are the characteristics of the real thing, and they can spot any form of fake. The same is true for knowing that God is the one and only. His characteristics prove who He is. Make sure you take the time to learn about who He is, and you will be convinced of what God can do just like Elijah was.

Day 3 – DOOMSDAY

Read 2 Kings 25:1-30
The people of Israel had rejected God and followed idols. What happened to Jerusalem?
What do you learn from God?

Day 4 – YOU MISSED THE WARNING SIGN

Read 1 Kings 9:1-9
Yesterday, you read about how Israel was taken captive by another ruler. According to what God told Solomon, could they have avoided all this destruction?
Does God do what He says He is going to do?
God wants good things for you. He wants you to avoid destruction. He warns you, in the Bible, how sin can be destructive. How can you avoid sin?

Day 5 – WHAT COULD YOU HAVE BEEN

Read Joshua 1:8-9
This was the charge that Joshua gave Israel when they first moved back into the land. Did they do these things? Do you believe following God’s Word means true success?

Some Wise Words So Listen Up

Day 1 – WHERE YOU TRUST

Read Proverbs 3:1-7
Write down what you learn from this Proverb. Who are we to trust according to verse 6?
What are we supposed to lean on? How can you apply this to your life?

Day 2 – MORE THAN A PET PEEVE

Read Proverbs 6:16-19
What are the things that the Lord hates? Have you done any of these things?
What are some ways that you can avoid these? Always remember that God wants to help you.

Day 3 – HOLD YOUR TONGUE

Read Proverbs 21:23
What do you think it means to guard your tongue? How can you apply it to your life?

DIG DEEPER

Read Romans 1 and you will see how sin and evil gets its start. The Lord hates everything that damages. Sin damages you, the world, and everyone else.

Give it a try! (#d7df22 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

An easy way to hold your tongue from speaking bad about others is to spend the day looking for something to do to serve another person.
Get your serve on and watch for how you can help another person today.
If you are focused on helping them, you might forget the hurtful words that come out of your mouth. Philippians 2:1-4

Day 4 – YOU BE TRIPPIN’

Read Proverbs 16:18
What does this proverb say will make you stumble? Are you prideful about anything right now that is keeping you from seeking out or obeying the Lord?

Day 5 – SAFETY ZONE

Read Proverbs 18:10
How is the Lord described?
A refuge is a place of protection. How can the Lord be a refuge for you?

CHALLENGE:

There are 31 proverbs and 30-31 days in each month. Read 1 proverb per day, and you can work through proverbs in 1 month or read through it 12 times in one year.

Speak Now of Forever Hold Your Peace

Day 1 – I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER MY MOUTH

Read Jeremiah 1:4-9
Jeremiah was one of many prophets that God used in the Bible. This passage you read is a great definition of what a prophet does. Who puts the prophets’ words in his mouth?
Was Jeremiah afraid? How did the Lord encourage him?

Day 2 – THE CHRISTMAS VERSE

Read Isaiah 7:14
This verse was written hundred of years before Jesus was born. What did the prophet say about Jesus?
Read Matthew 1:18-25. Did it happen as God said through Isaiah?

Day 3 – THE FUTURE (#22bcb8 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

Read Isaiah 42:1-4
This verse, spoken hundred of years before Jesus was born, is about Jesus. Write down how Jesus is described in these verses.

Day 4 – BUT IF NOT

Read Daniel 3
What would Shadrach, Meschach, and Abed-nego not do?
What happened to them?
What can you learn from their faith?
Because Shadrach, Meschach, and Abed-nego did not bow to the statue, it caused others to see God. What idols can you refuse to bow to so that others will see God?

You read Isaiah 42:1-4 this week where it says that God put His Spirit upon Jesus. Did you know that Jesus had an earthly mother and no earthly father? Joseph treated Jesus like He was his son, but Joseph was not Jesus’ real dad. Jesus was conceived in His mom’s womb by the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was an adult, He showed up to be baptized. Look what came down and rested upon him in Matthew 3:16. What God, through Isaiah, said hundreds of years earlier came true in Jesus!

Day 5 – TIME TO FEED THE LIONS

Read Daniel 6
What did Daniel continue to do that He was not supposed to?
 What was Daniel’s punishment? What

Day 1 – MAN OVERBOARD

Read Jonah 1
What did God want Jonah to do?
Jonah disobeyed by getting on a boat and running away. What happened?
Did Jonah know he was the cause of the problem? How did he respond?
Jonah messed up, but he realized that his sin was affecting others and made it right.
How can your sin affect others?
How can you make it right?

Day 2 – FISH VOMIT

Read Jonah 1:17- 2:10
Was it fun for Jonah being in the belly of a whale?
Did Jonah learn his lesson? I am sure you have never been in a whale, but has God used a tough circumstance to teach you a lesson for disobeying Him?

DID YOU KNOW

This story in the Bible is not an analogy, it really happened. Jonah ran away from God, and God captured him in a whale. Can you imagine what three days inside a whale would be like? Do you think Jonah learned his lesson?  The lesson here is that God can do crazy things to keep you from missing out on the good things that He has for you.

Day 3 – MERCY FOR EVIL PEOPLE

Read Jonah 3
Jonah didn’t want to go to Nineveh because it was such an evil city. What happened when Jonah finally obeyed God and went to Nineveh?
Have you ever not wanted to be around someone because you didn’t like them?
Do you think, that God could use you to share Him with those people?

I PROMISE YOU

Have you ever thought anyone was just too evil for God? Do you know someone who you think doesn’t deserve God’s grace? God promises that He has crazy patience for sinful people. He doesn’t want anyone to perish. That is not His heart so it should not be yours. Memorize 2 Peter 3:9 today.

Day 4 – JONAH’S PITY PARTY

Jonah throws a pity party because He wanted God to punish Nineveh.  God chose to have compassion on them instead. Jonah wished bad things for Nineveh but God did not.
Have you ever wanted punishment to happen for someone and it didn’t happen?
Read 2 Peter 3:9. Does this explain why God had compassion on the people of Nineveh?

Day 5 – THE MESSENGER

Read Isaiah 40:3 and Malachi 3:1
The prophets Isaiah and Malachi, hundreds of years before Jesus, spoke about a messenger who would prepare the way before Jesus came.
Read Matthew 3:1-3. Who was the prophecy talking about?
Did God’s Word come true? Do you trust God’s Word?

All Grown Up

Day 1 – COUSIN JOHN

Read Luke 3:1-20
John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. He was also the one who prepared people before Jesus came. What was his message?
To repent means to turn away from your sin. Jesus is your Savior, but you won’t recognize Him as your Savior unless you realize you need Him. Do you understand why John the Baptist was asking people to repent? What happened to John the Baptist?

Day 2 – JESUS IS ALL IN

Read Matthew 3:13-17
What happened here?
Who showed up when Jesus was baptized?

Day 3 – THE ULTIMATE MAN

Read Luke 4:1-11
How did Satan tempt Jesus?
How did Jesus fight temptation?
What can you learn from Jesus?

DID YOU KNOW

In the Old Testament, the kings of Israel always had a person who served them called the Forerunner. This person would go before the king and announce the king was on his way. Why would the true and final King of Israel be any different? Read Luke 1:15-17.

Give it a try! (#d7df22 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

Read Matthew 10:39 and notice what Jesus says it takes to follow Him. The disciples had to make this choice as well. They were fishermen, and God literally asked them to drop their nets forever to follow Him. They had to trust God would take care of them and give them a new purpose. Are you ready to “drop your net” to follow Christ?

Day 4 – DROP THAT FISH

Read Matthew 4:18-22
What does Jesus ask Peter and Andrew to do?
How would Peter and Andrew become fishers of men?

Day 5 – NO HOMETOWN HERO HERE

Read Luke 4:20-24; 28-30
How did Jesus’ hometown treat Him? Why do you think the people, who saw Jesus grow up, had a hard time understanding He was the Messiah, the Son of God?

Day 1 – BLESS YOU

Read Matthew 5:1-12
Write down all the blessings that Jesus gives.
How can you apply these to your life?

Day 2 – SALTY LIGHT

Read Matthew 5:13-16
What does salt do for food?
Salt can only lose its flavor by impurities being added to it. What does that mean to your salty witness?
How can you live your life in a way that makes following Jesus look “appetizing” to others?
Why does God want your light to shine?

Day 3 – THIS IS MY WAY – JESUS

Read Matthew 5:17-48
Write down all the things that Jesus says to do.
How can you apply them to your life?

I PROMISE YOU

Look back at Matthew 5:1-12. This passage describes the different characteristics of a believer. Look closely at Matthew 5:3. Those who are poor in spirit receive the “Kingdom of Heaven.” This is describing a new Christian. You can’t choose to follow Christ unless you realize that you are a sinner and need Him. Skip down to Matthew 5:10. A person has a strong faith in Jesus if they are able to endure being persecuted for their belief. Did you notice what they receive? The strongest Christian receives the same blessing as the new Christian. Your salvation has nothing to do with what you have done. It has everything to do with what Christ has done.

Day 4 – ETERNAL REWARD

Write down how we are supposed to give and pray.
Why do you think Jesus wants us to give without seeking a reward?
If you are giving to get something, are you giving with the right heart?
What do you learn from Jesus’ prayer?
How can you apply it to your prayers?

Day 5 – DON’T BE A WORRY WART (#0078c1 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

What are we not supposed to worry about? Do you worry about any of these things?
How can you apply these verses to your life? Memorize Matthew 6:33

Day 1 – DON’T BE THE JUDGE

Read Matthew 7:1-12
What does Jesus say about judging others?
Do you judge others? How can you change?
What does Jesus say about how you should treat others?
How can you do this today?

Day 2 – THAT’S NOT A SHEEP!

Read Matthew 7:13-23
Which is bigger, the gate to destruction or the gate that leads to life?
Are you ready to follow Jesus when everyone else around is going in a different gate?
A wolf in sheep’s clothing is something that looks good on the outside but is really destructive when you look on the inside. Can you think of anything in the world today like this? How can you avoid these things?

Day 3 – BUILD IT STRONG

Read Matthew 7:24-29
How are you going to build your house?

DID YOU KNOW?

Christianity is the only “religion” that has been able to be relevant to people of all different cultures in all different generations. No matter how the world changes the truth about God, He will not change and never be outdated. If Jesus wasn’t real, His story would never have kept going for thousands of generations like it has proven to do. God’s followers have grown from a small few into billions of followers throughout history. No other religion can say this.

Day 4 – PLEASE PASS THE MUSTARD

Read Matthew 13:31-32
When Jesus was on earth, there were only a handful of Christians. They were small, like a mustard seed. How has the number of Christians grown thousands of years later?

Give it a try!

Today, you are not going to judge a book by its cover. Take the time today to get to know someone in your school who you don’t know. Hear their story and tell them yours. Getting to know people and caring about who they are will help you be less judgmental.

Day 5 – COME HOME SON

Read Luke 15:8-34
Does God rejoice when a sinner turns to Him?
How did the father welcome the prodigal son when he came home?
How will Jesus do the same for you?

Day 1- KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

Read Mark 4:25-41
What does Jesus have power over? What do you learn about God?
When you are with God, should you be afraid of anything?

Day 2- NO MORE SPOTS

Read Matthew 8:1-4
Leprosy was a disease you had for life. Back in Jesus’ day, if you had it, you were considered unclean and were cast out of society. What did Jesus do for the leper?
Does Jesus care about people who the world thinks are outcasts?
Do you feel like an outcast of the world? If so, how does this encourage you?
If God does not consider anyone as an outcast, then how should you treat others?

DIG DEEPER

Read Luke 19:1-10. Jesus invites a man named Zacchaeus to eat dinner with Him. Zacchaeus was a tax collector, and the Israelites viewed tax collectors as outcasts. Most tax collectors were corrupt, but it doesn’t mean they couldn’t change. The people never would have given Zacchaeus a chance, but Jesus did.

Day 3- WASN’T THAT WATER? (#22bcb8 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

Read Matthew 8:1-4
Back in Jesus’ time, wine was more like grape juice and was served at weddings. It would be embarrassing for a family if the wine ran out. What does Jesus do to help?
Who asked Jesus to do it? This was Jesus’ first miracle. The people may not have known what Jesus could do yet, but who knew what He was capable of doing?

Day 4- HAVE COMPASSION (#ffffff BKG) (#ef4123 Font)

Read Mark 1:32-34
What did Jesus do here?
Was Jesus compassionate to people’s needs?
What can you learn from Jesus’ compassion?
How can you have compassion?

Day 5- WAKE UP LAZARUS (#0078c1 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

Read John 11:1-44
What did Jesus do here?
This is important, because soon after this, Jesus was going to die on the cross. He needed to show His followers that He had power over death. Do you believe Jesus has power over death?

B&B (#d7df22 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

Every time Jesus does a miracle in the Bible, He is showing us something about Himself. Jesus turning water to wine was a very important lesson about Himself. The man at the wedding proclaimed that most people serve the best wine at the beginning and then serve the worst at the end. But the wine at the end of the wedding was the best! Of course it was… Jesus made it! Jesus shows us here that He is saving the best for last. Eternity is going to be so much better than life on earth.  Remember this story when life is hard and know that God is saving the best for last. Your life is much more than simply your time on earth.

The Death Penalty

Day 1- YOU ARE COMING WITH ME

Read Luke 23:39-43
How did one of the thieves on the cross defend Jesus? What did Jesus say to him?
The thief deserved to be on the cross. He had been bad all his life, yet at the last moment, he believed in Jesus. Does this give you hope for people who don’t believe in Jesus?

Day 2- IT IS FINISHED

Read John 19:16-42
What happened at Jesus’ crucifixion? How did they bury Jesus?
Jesus didn’t deserve death, yet He did it for you. Write down your thoughts.

I PROMISE YOU

John 3:16 is the most well-known verse in the Bible, and it really explains what happened on the cross with the two thieves. God wants no one to perish, but all to have eternal life. One thief was testing God all the way to the end. He wanted to see God come off the cross to believe. He didn’t understand that Jesus had to go through with the cross. Jesus could have easily come off that cross, but He chose not to for our sake. If He didn’t go through with the crucifixion, we could not have salvation. Wanting none to perish, Jesus ignored the thief’s challenge and continued to endure the cross. The other thief is an example that it doesn’t matter what type of a past you have, you just have to believe in Jesus as your Savior. It is a true promise that no matter what you have done, God will forgive your sins. Unlike Christ, this thief deserved to be on the cross for his evil lifestyle, but realized his sin and knew he needed Jesus.

Day 3- THERE IS NO ONE HERE

Read Matthew 28:1-15
Did Jesus conquer death?
Read 1 Peter 1:3-4. What does this mean for you?
Do you believe you need Jesus as your Savior?

Day 4- IT’S REALLY ME (#ffffff BKG) (#ef4123 Font)

Read John 20:19-29
What did it take for Thomas to believe?
Do you believe that Jesus really resurrected from the dead?

DID YOU KNOW

Jesus showed up on earth the first time as an infant and a carpenter’s son. He wasn’t this big, strong man, and He didn’t rule the world. He first had to save us from our sin so we could be a part of His Kingdom when He rules the world.  Read Revelation 19 to see what it will be like when He returns. He is coming as the King of Kings this time and no one will miss that it’s Him.

Day 5- SEE YA SOON

Read Acts 1:1-11
What happened after Jesus resurrected and spent time with His disciples?
What is promised in verse 11?
Read John 14:3. Jesus will come back soon, but in the meantime, He is preparing a place for you!

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God? Do you believe He is your Savior? Take some time to write out or think about if you believe Jesus is who He says He is. If you need help, grab someone who you look up to for their faith and ask them why they believe in Jesus.

Paul Teaches the Romans

Day 1- LEMONS TO LEMONADE

Read Acts 8:1-2, 9:1-22, 13:9
Because of what happened to Paul in Jerusalem, he was sent to Rome.
What happened there?
Paul used every situation, good or bad to share Christ. What does he do while in Rome?
Do you see every situation as a possible opportunity to share Christ?

Day 2- NO SHAME IN MY GAME

Read Romans 1:14-17
What does Paul write to the Romans about the Gospel? Are you ashamed of the Gospel?
What can you learn from Paul’s example?

Day 3- NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Read Romans 3:9-12:23
Is there anyone who doesn’t sin? Do you sin? Do you believe that your sin is a problem to God?

Give it a try! (#d7df22 BKG) (#ffffff Font)

Paul was bold about sharing his faith with people. List two people below who you would like to share the Gospel with. Spend some time praying about how and when you will tell them about Christ (if you need advice, ask someone you look up to). People need Jesus, and who better to hear about Him than from someone that is their friend? You can do it!

Day 4- JESUS TOOK ONE FOR THE TEAM

Read Romans 5:6-8; 6:23
What does Jesus do for us?
Do you believe this to be true? If not, ask a follower of Jesus to help you understand.
Jesus drastically changed Paul’s life. Has He drastically changed yours?

Day 5- FESS UP

Read Romans 10:9
You have read about many people in the Bible who believed in their heart that Jesus is Lord. The mouth always speaks from the overflow of your heart. If your heart believes, then your mouth will speak. Have you confessed that Jesus is Lord?
Take some time today to write out or talk about why you believe Jesus is Lord.

Day 1- THE CONQUERER

Read Romans 8:31-39
What do you learn about Jesus in these verses? What does it mean for you?
How does this encourage you, today? How are you going to apply it to your life?

Day 2- THE GARDENER

Read Galatians 5:22
List the fruit of the spirit. Do you have these things?
How can you strive to be the different fruits of the spirit?

DIG DEEPER

The Bible uses the analogy of soldiers and warfare to describe what it looks like to fight with Him. Here are verses for you to read:
Hebrews 4:12   2 Timothy 2:1-4   2 Timothy 4:7-8

Day 3- ARMOR UP

Read Ephesians 6:10-17
Why do we need God’s armor? What are the different pieces of armor and what do they do?
How can you put the armor on everyday?

Day 4- GET YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR

Read Philippians 4:4-7
What are we to do always?
How can you rejoice in the Lord today and every day?
How do you ask God for things with thanksgiving?
What happens when you present your requests to God with thanksgiving?

Fear is what usually stands in your way of overcoming something. Maybe you are fearful of what will happen. Sometimes you are fearful that you will lose something. Most of the time, you fear failure. Whatever the reason, fear does an amazing job of keeping you from being who you are meant to be and doing what you are meant to do. Jesus gives the hope that you are more than a conqueror in Him. If He puts you up to a task, He will see you through it. So isn’t it time to pick up that cross?

Day 5- WHO DO YOU SERVE?

Read Colossians 3:23
What is the motive for doing anything you do?
What are ways that we spend time trying to please mankind?
Why do you think God wants us to avoid pleasing other people?
What are some ways that you can spend time pleasing God?

Paul is on a Mission

Day 1- SAUL TO PAUL

Read Acts 8:1-2, 9:1-22, 13:9
What was Saul doing before Jesus showed Himself to Saul on the road?
What happened to Saul? What was Saul also called?

Day 2- ROAD TRIP

Read Acts 17:16-34
What did Paul do when he would get to a city? What was his #1 goal?
What do you learn about Jesus here?

Day 3- ULTIMATE BODY GUARD

Read Acts18:1-9
Where was Paul preaching the gospel?
What happened while he was there?
How did the Lord encourage him?

The sad thing is that evil continues today, just in different ways. There are billions of dollars made every day on inappropriate websites. There are millions of readers of magazines that promote gossip and lies.  The goal behind most of these is money. That was the problem with the silversmith in Paul’s time. Paul was preaching that God was the one and only, which hurt the silversmith’s idol selling business. Because this caused him to lose money, the silversmith tried to stop Paul from preaching.  The lesson here is that there are many things in the world that seem to be against Christians because people are focused on themselves and consumed with personal gain. Don’t let it discourage you. Use Paul’s example of dependence on God to encourage you!

Day 4- THE BUSINESS OF EVIL

Read Acts 19
In verse 19, what happened when people believed in Jesus? What were they giving up?
Why was the silversmith mad?
People make money off evil things, and it can cause them not to follow Jesus and maybe even threaten those who follow Jesus.
Can you think of an example of people who do this today?

Day 5- GOING HOME AND NOT WELCOME

Read Acts 21:27 – 22:29
Paul lived in Jerusalem before he followed Christ. What was his return home like?
Could you imagine if this happened in your hometown?
It is much easier to live for Christ in America than it was for Jesus’ disciples back then.
Take some time today to be thankful that you are free to share your faith.

Calling All Leaders

Day 1- DON’T LOVE THE BENJAMINS

Read 1 Timothy 6:9-11
Money isn’t bad; it is the love of money that is destructive.
How can loving money keep you from following God?

Day 2- PASS IT ON

Read 2 Timothy 2:1-2
What does Paul challenge Timothy to do?
How can you apply this to your life?

The Bible says that the word of the Lord and the souls of men are the only two things that will last on the earth. Money and all it can buy cannot go with you when you die. It stays on earth and gets old or passed on to somebody else. Money is not the enemy. There are many followers of Christ who have money and are faithful to use it for His purpose. The love of money is what is evil. If you love money, you probably won’t love God. Obviously, you need money to live, but always remember that God is more valuable than the largest amount of money you can think of because He lasts forever.

Day 3- GOD’S BREATH

Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Whose breath is scripture? What is scripture useful for in your life?

DIG DEEPER

While Jesus was alive on earth, He took three of His disciples and “transfigured” Himself. Transfigured is a fancy work for “change form.” Once you understand what Jesus is doing it makes more sense. His disciples had come to love being with Him. When Jesus told them He would leave and come back, they were upset that He had to leave. Jesus lived life as an ordinary human who did everything humans have to do. To help His disciples understand what He would look like when He returned, He had to show them. Read Matthew 17:1-9. Can you imagine seeing Jesus like this? Guess what? You can some day!

Day 4- RESPECT YOUR AUTHORITY

Read Titus 3:1-2
What are you supposed to do, according to verse 1? How can you do this today? What are you supposed to do, according to verse 2? How can you do this today?

Day 5- HE’S COMING BACK

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-10
Write down what you learn about Jesus’ return.
According to verse 9, what do followers of Christ get to avoid?

The End

Day 1- EVICTION NOTICE

Read Revelation 12:7-11
What happens to Satan here?
According to verse 10, what does Satan do day and night? Jesus defeated Satan on the cross. In the end, He will get rid of him for good.
How does this encourage you?

Day 2- THE RIDER ON THE WHITE HORSE

Read Revelation 19
What happens in this chapter?
What does Jesus do?
What happens to Satan and his followers?

Day 3- DON’T NEED TISSUES ANYMORE

Read Revelation 21:1-4
What will it be like after Jesus returns?
Does this make you excited for Jesus to return?

I PROMISE YOU

Read these great verses that promise that Satan has no chance of winning. God has already defeated him, but very soon He will put an end to Satan for good!
Galatians 1:4, 1 John 3:8, Hebrews 2:14-15,  John 12:13, Colossians 1:13

Day 4- THE NEW CITY

Read Revelation 21:10-27
How is the New Jerusalem described?
Does it sound like where you want to be someday? It’s promised to you if you want it.
Will there be any evil or hurt? If you believe in Jesus, you are in the Book of Life. Spend some time thanking God for providing the way for you to have all of this through Jesus.

Day 5- ALPHA AND OMEGA

Read Revelation 21:5-7
God made all things new in the beginning, and He will make all things new again. Think about this verse and all that you have learned. Spend some time writing out what you have learned this year and how your faith has grown.
