Day 1 – THE SNOWBALL EFFECT
Read 2 Samuel 11
List all the things that David did wrong.
Sin is a slippery slope.
How did David’s sin snowball?
Even the greatest of men sin and you can learn from their mistakes. What are some ways David could have avoided what he did wrong?
Day 2 – CONFRONT IT, CONFESS IT, AND BE RESTORED
Read 2 Samuel 12:1-23
What made David see the wrong in his ways?
What did David do when He recognized his sin?
We all make mistakes, but nothing is too big to forgive. What is God teaching you through David’s repentant heart?
Do you have something that you have done wrong that you are truly sorry about? The Lord loves you and wants you to turn to Him. He will forgive and restore you, just like He did for David. Read 1 John 1:9 for encouragement.
God walked with His people in the Garden until man had to be kicked out. As soon as man sinned, God enacted His plan of salvation. He wasn’t okay with the separation between you and Him. As you read throughout the Bible, you will see God get closer and closer to His people. He dwells in a cloud, in a tabernacle (portable tent), and finally, God’s people get to build the temple where He will dwell for many years. Did you know He never intended for human-made buildings to be His home? He had a better temple in mind, one that He built alone… Read 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.
Day 3 – OH WISE ONE
Read 1 Kings 2:1-4; 3:1-15
What did Solomon ask of God?
What did God give Solomon?
Day 4 – GOD’S HOUSE
Read 1 Kings 8:1-11; 9:1-9
What does Solomon build?
Does God want good things for His people?
What did God warn His people would happen if they followed idols?
Day 5 – WORTHLESS JUNK
Read 1 Kings 10:23-25
Solomon was the richest man in the world and also the wisest. There was nothing he did not have. Is being the smartest and the richest still something people want today?
At the end of Solomon’s life, he wrote the book Ecclesiastes. Read Ecclesiastes 2:9-11.
Did the man who had it all think wisdom and riches were that great?
(Hint: the definition of vanity is worthless)
There is nothing wrong with being smart or being rich. God can use those gifts.
The problem is when you value the things you have and your abilities more than God.
Have you ever done this?
