Watch Your Eyes and Ears

Day 1- MEDIA IS A POWERFUL INFLUENCER

Media has changed so much in just the last 50 years. 100 years ago, the media was just radio, then came television. Fast forward to now when we have news, opinions, pictures, movies, and music right at our fingertips through the phone, internet, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and television. Yes you can use these things for God’s glory, but they are dangerous to your purity if not respected.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22. What does God want you to do?
Think of specific examples of how the media promotes certain things.
Does the media promote body image? selfishness? the love of things?
Does it promote hurtful words? sexual impurity?

Day 2- WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING?

Read Luke 11:34 and memorize it. Why is it important to protect your eyes?
Read Psalm 101:3-4. What should you not set your eyes upon?
What you see can influence you. Satan uses what you see to influence you to give into your sin and eventually cause you to question what God wants for you. More importantly, images can stick with you when they are in your head… God wants to protect your eyes so those images that remain in your head won’t be a part of your thoughts. Remember, bad thoughts don’t turn into good actions. By asking you to guard your eyes, God is trying to protect you from the ever-changing agendas of culture and protect you from impure thoughts that turn into impure actions.

Day 3- WHAT ARE YOU HEARING?

The Bible is clear about who you should listen to and who you should not listen to.
Read Proverbs 22:17-18 and John 10:27-28
Whose words should you value and listen to?
Are you confident in God enough to know why He wants you to listen to Him?
Here is what the Bible says you are not supposed to listen to:
Matthew 7:15. How are false prophets described?
Romans 16:17-18. Who are you to avoid and why?

Day 4- WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS BAD?

Not all media is bad. There are many people using media for good things.
The good and bad are out there so you need to be able to discern what is good and bad.
Read Romans 12:2. How can you discern what is good and bad?
The Bible gives you a more detailed way of discerning what is good and what is bad.
Read 2 Corinthians 6:12. If you are allowed to do something, does it mean it will benefit you?

Day 5- WHAT NEEDS TO GO?

Sin makes drastic damage to you so God wants you to take drastic measures.
Matthew 5:29-30. What does this verse say for you to do if something causes you to stumble? God uses a drastic example to catch your attention. He is serious about sin because He is serious about you.
How can you use this as a standard for what your eyes see and your ears hear?
Maybe you should grab a sharpie and write this on a piece of tape and stick it on the back of your iPod, phone. You could even post it near your television. Reminders are always good to help you stay pure.
