Hard Knocks

Mark these Key Words: Trials, Jesus, (Lord, Christ, Him)

Romans 5:1-5

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulations bring about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Like an automatic transmission shifting gears s needed, Paul speaks in this passage about how hard times shift “through the gears” ultimately to hope. Describe how you have seen this amazing process become a reality in your personal experience with trials and tribulations.

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

How does Jesus become the Game Changer during personal trials to one who is committed to Him?

James 1:2-4

“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

What does a true believer need to do to be able to “consider it all joy” when distressed with various trials?

2 Corinthians 4:8-10

“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.”

What is this verse saying to you in the challenges you are facing today? What does it mean to you to experience in your body the dying of Jesus so that the life of Jesus might be more apparent in your body and mind?

Psalm 139:8-10

“If I ascent to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.

The Ark of the Covenant was the laws of God. What is God saying in Hebrews 8 about the placement of God’s laws?

2 Corinthians 12:9 & 10

“And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.”
