Zechariah

Day 1- 01 THE STORY

Zechariah was an older man who was a priest in God’s temple. He and his wife didn’t have children, and most people thought they were too old to have any.  There were many Jewish priests, and it was the time of year that Zechariah was supposed to serve. While he was there, he was chosen to go into the temple alone to do the particular job that needed to be done to worship the Lord. He was chosen because all the priests gathered around and “cast lots” to see who would go. Casting lots is something they did back in Bible times. We kind of do the same thing by “drawing straws” or “rolling the dice.” It seemed like it was chance that Zechariah got chosen, but it was God’s plan all along was for Zechariah to go in alone. There was someone there to see him.
Read Luke 1:8-9
Who was there? What was his name? What did he tell Zechariah?
Who was going to be Zechariah’s son? Did Zechariah believe him at first?

Day 2 – 02 THE WITNESSES

Have you ever thought God was crazy for picking you to do something? Zechariah was told he would have a son during his old age, and his son would be the guy who will tell people about the Savior.  He was speechless, literally. He didn’t believe the angel’s words so God silenced him until his son was born.  At some point in your life, you will be speechless because God wants to do something unbelievable through you. Zechariah really didn’t believe the angel Gabriel, but that doesn’t mean that Zechariah was a bad guy. Through what happened, Zechariah learned that no matter how crazy something God is doing seems, always trust Him.
Read Luke 1: 5-6. How are Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth’s character described?
Read Luke 1:23-24. Did what God said through His angel messenger Gabriel, really come true? Do you believe what God says will come true?

GIVE IT A TRY!

Gabriel startled Zechariah! Zechariah wasn’t expecting anyone to be in the temple so when Gabriel showed up, it took him by surprise. You will soon read about Gabriel returning to tell another person important message. God’s angels have lots of jobs, one of them being His messenger. Today, draw a picture of what you think Gabriel looks like.

Day 3- 03 THE SOURCE

Read Luke 1:37. What does this verse say?
Look around you today and see everything that is happening. There are so many cool things that God created all on His own. Make a list of a few animals that you see today. When you have time, grab a dictionary, or look on the internet with your parents’ permission and read all about that animal. Pay attention to how they are made, what they do, how they eat, and all sorts of cool stuff. Did you know that was all God’s plan? There is nothing impossible for Him!

Day 4- 04 THE MOTIVE

Read Proverbs 3:5. What does this verse ask you to do?
Are you supposed to lean on God or lean on what you understand?
Do you lean on God for everything? What ways could you lean on God a little more?

Day 5- 05 CAUGHT IN THE ACT
