Day 1 – MAN OVERBOARD
Read Jonah 1
What did God want Jonah to do?
Jonah disobeyed by getting on a boat and running away. What happened?
Did Jonah know he was the cause of the problem? How did he respond?
Jonah messed up, but he realized that his sin was affecting others and made it right.
How can your sin affect others?
How can you make it right?
Day 2 – FISH VOMIT
Read Jonah 1:17- 2:10
Was it fun for Jonah being in the belly of a whale?
Did Jonah learn his lesson? I am sure you have never been in a whale, but has God used a tough circumstance to teach you a lesson for disobeying Him?
DID YOU KNOW
This story in the Bible is not an analogy, it really happened. Jonah ran away from God, and God captured him in a whale. Can you imagine what three days inside a whale would be like? Do you think Jonah learned his lesson? The lesson here is that God can do crazy things to keep you from missing out on the good things that He has for you.
Day 3 – MERCY FOR EVIL PEOPLE
Read Jonah 3
Jonah didn’t want to go to Nineveh because it was such an evil city. What happened when Jonah finally obeyed God and went to Nineveh?
Have you ever not wanted to be around someone because you didn’t like them?
Do you think, that God could use you to share Him with those people?
I PROMISE YOU
Have you ever thought anyone was just too evil for God? Do you know someone who you think doesn’t deserve God’s grace? God promises that He has crazy patience for sinful people. He doesn’t want anyone to perish. That is not His heart so it should not be yours. Memorize 2 Peter 3:9 today.
Day 4 – JONAH’S PITY PARTY
Jonah throws a pity party because He wanted God to punish Nineveh. God chose to have compassion on them instead. Jonah wished bad things for Nineveh but God did not.
Have you ever wanted punishment to happen for someone and it didn’t happen?
Read 2 Peter 3:9. Does this explain why God had compassion on the people of Nineveh?
Day 5 – THE MESSENGER
Read Isaiah 40:3 and Malachi 3:1
The prophets Isaiah and Malachi, hundreds of years before Jesus, spoke about a messenger who would prepare the way before Jesus came.
Read Matthew 3:1-3. Who was the prophecy talking about?
Did God’s Word come true? Do you trust God’s Word?
