The Weapon of Pride

Day 1- DEFINE IT

Pride: (n) a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own possessions and achievements or the possessions and achievements of others.
Pride is more than just putting your things and accomplishments before God… it’s also when you arrogantly give yourself credit for the things God has done. John the Baptist is a great example of someone whose pride was only in Jesus.
Read John 3:30 (hint: the “He” John is talking about is Jesus)
What was John the Baptist’s perspective?
Was John the Baptist prideful? What are some ways you are prideful?
What are some ways you can decrease and God can increase in your life.

Day 2- CULTURE ENCOURAGES PRIDE

Read Philippians 2:3
What does the Bible ask you to do? How can you keep your mind off of yourself?
Read Romans 12:16
What should you never be? Are your thoughts more important than God’s thoughts?
Do your actions reflect your answer to the question above?
How is this mentality different than culture’s perspective?
What are some ways this week you can get your focus off of yourself?
Can you live a life of purity if you’re focused on your wants and not what is best for others?

Day 3- YOU vs GOD

Read Jeremiah 9:23-24
List the things in which you are not supposed to boast. Who should you boast about?
Read James 4:10
Are you confident God will lift you up in the right timing?
What do you need to do to humble yourself before God?
God deserved all the credit because He has done all the work. If you are busy giving yourself the credit, you will miss out on what He is doing.

Day 4- BE READY TO BE HUMBLED

Read Proverbs 16:18
What comes before destruction?
What comes before a fall?
Read Proverbs 29:23
What happens to one who is prideful?
What happens for the one who is humble?
Read Proverbs 11:2
What comes after pride?
What comes with humility?
If you are humiliated because of pride and your spirits are down, it’s time to start looking up.
Read Matthew 5:3
What does the poor in spirit inherit?
Have you ever been humbled?

Day 5- ROLLING CREDITS

Have you ever stayed to the end of a movie to see the long list of credits? Everyone who worked on the movie gets credit. Your life isn’t over, but it’s time to start making the rolling credits.
Write down all your accomplishments, possessions, and strengths that you are proud of. Give God the credit for the things He has done and thank Him. Write down who God used in your life to impact you.
“Let one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:31
