The Holy Spirit

Mark These Key Words: Jesus     God     Holy Spirit

Understanding His Comfort

John 14:16 & 17

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”

The word “Helper” is the Greek word “PARAKLETE” that means “one who is called alongside.” The context in this passage is the way a commanding General would “speak a word of bravery” to a defeated army to encourage his army to “go back into battle.” How has the Holy Spirit done this for you?

Understanding His Power

Acts 1:8

“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

The Greek word for power is “Dunimos” from which we get the word dynamite. However, in this passage the context is more like the generator of a car that continues to provide power to operate the entire automobile. Describe how the Holy Spirit empowers you to share your faith.

Understanding His Personality (Humility) And His Role in The Trinity

John 16:13-15

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify My for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”

What is Jesus communicating in this passage about the Holy Spirit’s role in The Trinity?

Understanding His Teaching

John 14:26

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

John 16:8-10

“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;”

What do you hear these two passages saying?

How is the Holy Spirit accomplishing this ministry of conviction, righteousness, judgement and truth in your life?
