THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE
2 Timothy 3:15-17
“…and that from childhood you have known the sacred writing which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
What is the purpose of the Bible?
According to this verse, “teaching, reproof, correcting and training in righteousness” to be equipped for every good work. Also, the Bible reveals the story of God’s redemption to the world.
1 Peter 1:20
“For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you.”
Describe the authority behind the words of the Bible.
Foreknowledge of Jesus shows that the Bible has all along been about Jesus coming for people. Jesus holds authority over me, because He saved me.
JESUS THE CREATOR
John 1:3
“All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”
What was Jesus role in man’s creation?
His role in the creation of man is spelled out in the text. “ALL THINGS came into being through Him.”
Colossians 1:15
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”
Through whom were you created?
“The firstborn” shows that we are in His image. Genesis 1:26-27 -> Connect OT & NT to the same message.
JESUS’S VIEW OF GENDER IDENTITY
Matthew 19:4 & 5
“And He answered and said, ‘Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.’”
When was man created on this earth?
God created man “from the beginning” and from the beginning there was distinction.
Mark 10:6-8
“But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.”
Describe God’s decision for marriage.
God made man and woman different to compliment and make each other better as they become one in marriage.
