Impurity = Sin

Day 1- DEFINITION OF SIN

Read James 4:17 and memorize it. How is sin described in this verse? How is Eve an example of this verse? How is Adam an example of this verse? Have you ever known the right thing to do but still didn’t do it?

Day 2- THE CHARACTER OF SIN

Read these verses and write down what you learn about sin.
Romans 6:23, 1 John 3:4, Matthew 15:17-20
Where does sin start? Where do your sinful actions come from?
What are ways you can protect your thoughts from sin?
Read Luke 6:46-49
What is the difference between the man who listens to God and chooses to do what is right and the man who hears God but chooses his own way?
Have you seen sin’s character in your own life?

Day 3- THE PENALTY FOR SIN

Today you are going to learn a simple illustration to understand the penalty for sin.
Read Romans 6:23
Grab some duct tape and go outside to your driveway. Make a line with duct tape.
Take 20 huge steps and make another duct tape line parallel to the other one. If you have chalk write “Man = Sin & Death” next to the first duct tape line. Write “God = Purity & Life” on the other side of the second duct tape. It should look like this:
MAN = Sin and Death
GOD = Purity and Life
Now stand at the “Man” side with your feet on the duct tape line facing the “God” line. Try to leap across that gap. That gap represents your separation from God. Sin keeps you from Him.

GIVE IT A TRY!

Pick up a rock and carry it around all day one Saturday. Take it with you wherever you go. At the end of the day, write down what carrying that rock around all day was like. Thinking about how carrying a rock all day affected your ability to do what you were supposed to do that day? Imagine this rock represents your sin. Do you think sin is worth carrying around?

Day 4- SIN HARMS OTHERS

Read Hebrews 10:22-24
What does this verse ask you to do first? What does God do for your heart?
What does God want you to do for others? If you are sinful, is it possible to spur others on to love and good deeds? What are some of your sins that are harming others?
What are you going to do about it?

Day 5- YOU CAN’T HIDE SIN

Read the following verses and find out what they say about hiding your sin.
Jeremiah 16:17, Psalm 139: 1-4, Jeremiah 17:10
Hiding from God is pointless. He knows your heart and He knows your sin. In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve tried to hide their sin from God, but He already knew they had sinned. The great news is that God had already planned a way to free mankind from his sin.

What are ways the world tries to hide their sin?
What are some ways you have tried to hide your sin? Did it work?
