Downward Spiral

Day 1 – CIVIL WAR // THE FIRST NORTH AND SOUTH

Read 2 Samuel 11
Who should Rehoboam have listened to, the elders or his peers?
Why is it important to value the advice of those who are older?
Do you seek the advice of your elders or just your peers?
The consequence for Rehoboam’s actions was the nation of Israel dividing into two. What are some consequences that could happen if you only listened to your peers and ignored your parents?

Day 2 – ELIJAH’S DOUBLE DARE

Read 1 Kings 18:20-40
How does the prophet Elijah challenge the prophets of Baal?
What happens when the prophets of Baal asked Baal to bring down fire?
What happened when Elijah asked the real God to call down fire?
What do you learn about God?

DIG DEEPER

Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. What is God’s Word useful for?
What can it do to set you up for success? Why do you think God’s Word is important?

Give it a try!

Most Secret Service agents don’t protect the United States government. The most common job for a Secret Service agent is protecting the United States money. These agents spend their days spotting counterfeit money and keeping others from creating and giving out fake money. All they have to know are the characteristics of the real thing, and they can spot any form of fake. The same is true for knowing that God is the one and only. His characteristics prove who He is. Make sure you take the time to learn about who He is, and you will be convinced of what God can do just like Elijah was.

Day 3 – DOOMSDAY

Read 2 Kings 25:1-30
The people of Israel had rejected God and followed idols. What happened to Jerusalem?
What do you learn from God?

Day 4 – YOU MISSED THE WARNING SIGN

Read 1 Kings 9:1-9
Yesterday, you read about how Israel was taken captive by another ruler. According to what God told Solomon, could they have avoided all this destruction?
Does God do what He says He is going to do?
God wants good things for you. He wants you to avoid destruction. He warns you, in the Bible, how sin can be destructive. How can you avoid sin?

Day 5 – WHAT COULD YOU HAVE BEEN

Read Joshua 1:8-9
This was the charge that Joshua gave Israel when they first moved back into the land. Did they do these things? Do you believe following God’s Word means true success?
