Colossians 3:5-10

“Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him.”

What does it mean to “consider your earthly body as “dead to sin”?

Believers should not want and desire the things of the flesh, because our flesh died with Christ.

When Paul says in verse 8, “put them all aside” specifically how is God talking to you?

Help them actually navigate why they keep coming back to sin and before giving a plan of change ask them, “Do you all believe you are truly forgiven of this sin?”

What does it mean to “lay aside the old self”?

To stop going back to the old ways, thinking they will satisfy you.  Because we know they won’t. Only Christ satisfies a “new creation.”

How are you specifically being urged by the Holy Spirit to “put on the new self”?

Belief. Help them focus on believing they are made new!
