John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. He was also the one who prepared people before Jesus came. What was his message?
To repent means to turn away from your sin. Jesus is your Savior, but you won’t recognize Him as your Savior unless you realize you need Him. Do you understand why John the Baptist was asking people to repent? What happened to John the Baptist?

Read Luke 4:1-11
How did Satan tempt Jesus?

In the Old Testament, the kings of Israel always had a person who served them called the Forerunner. This person would go before the king and announce the king was on his way. Why would the true and final King of Israel be any different? Read Luke 1:15-17.

Read Matthew 10:39 and notice what Jesus says it takes to follow Him. The disciples had to make this choice as well. They were fishermen, and God literally asked them to drop their nets forever to follow Him. They had to trust God would take care of them and give them a new purpose. Are you ready to “drop your net” to follow Christ?

How did Jesus’ hometown treat Him? Why do you think the people, who saw Jesus grow up, had a hard time understanding He was the Messiah, the Son of God?
